Water Boarding

There is much discussion about the use of water boarding by the CIA against enemies of the United States. The world is much like a hurricane or violence with America in the eye. Much of Africa is consumed in violence and corruption. There are movements throughout the world that would like to see an end to the "Pax-Americana." How do people negotiate with violent people intent to overthrow you? The US government can not simply ask these people for information. Anyone that will kill or be killed for what they believe in cannot be reasoned with.

What would happen if the CIA can no longer practice water boarding? They will fine another way to extract information that they need. Water boarding is not the only way to "torture" someone.

What if laws are passed that greatly restricts the CIA from extracting information through any form of fear or torture? There will always be some loop hole that can be used. The CIA might be able to hold prisoners in other countries where they could extract information as they see fit without the American public knowing.

The CIA could hire foreign government officials to extract information they need. American hands will never touch the prisoner, but Pakistani or Egyptian hands might torture and get the information we desire.

If there is legislation that limits all use of torture, whether foreign or domestic, to the point that the CIA cannot extract information to keep us safe, pray that your God does keep us safe. The government will no longer be able to gather information from these people to protect us.

The bottom line is that this cruel treatment has given the CIA and the government information that has saved lives. These operatives have given up information that stopped terrorist attacks. No one want to see people tortured, no one wants to know about it. However, there are some horrors that occur in order for a nation to survive.
