Legendary musician Ike Turner has died at the age of 76. His musical talents will live on forever in our hearts. Ike is most remembered for his marriage to Tina Turner. Ike and Tina had a beautiful, musical partnership. But their marriage was a rocky one at that.

A blues man, who has his own legendary roots in the music industry, taught Ike how to play the piano. Not only was Ike famous for his partnership with Tina, but he will be remembered for writing the very first ever rock and roll record. It was produced in the early '50's. It was called "Rocket 88."

Ike and Tina were a massive hit. He wasn't just famous for his musical talents. Rumors of abuse against his former wife Tina were often made public. Before his death, Ike won a Grammy in 2007 for a traditional blues album. A few of his greatest hits were "Proud Mary," "River deep Mountain High" and "I wanna take you higher."

In an exclusive interview with the Associated Press, Ike denied all claims of abusing Tina Turner. But he always admitted to using drugs in his early career days.

Ike made Tina the lead singer of his band, "Kings of Rhythm." This partnership between Tina and Ike gave him the career boost he needed. After the bad break up between Ike and Tina it was hard for him to recover his once glamorous music career.

He did soon find peace within himself. Ike was able to recover and make good income for himself. A movie representing his life and career with Tina was produced several years before his death. The success with his former wife would never be reclaimed again. The movie portrayed the evil side to the music legend.

Tales of his abuse toward his former wife was a two sided argument. The truth to the matter is we will never quite know if he was indeed a wife beater or not. Truthfully that isn't important anymore. The legendary Ike Turner lost his life at the age of 76.

He will be remembered not for his abuse or drug addictions but for contributions he made in the music industry. The musical hits he produced with and without his partner are his greatest contributes to the music world. His memory and legacy for great lyrics and music will be what we remember Ike Turner to be.

I'm a bigger Tina fan than that of Ike, but I was sad to see him go.

He did abuse Tina. He was also an excellent musician. Thanks for publishing here at AC. I heard the news on the radio and forgot that I wanted to search the net for the details. For mainstream U.S.A. I would think he will be remembered as 1/2 of Ike & Tina Turner of "Proud Mary" fame. The reason: she went on to have Billboard chart hits and he had a more limited audience as years went by.

I think you got it wrong. Ike Had a Massive Hit. As far as I'm concerned, the only way he will be remembered is as a drug addict, felon, who beat his wife!

I have to agree with P.L. Ward. Saying "the abuse "isn't important anymore" is wrong. Of course, Ike denied the abuse. Abusers usually do. Who kicked Tina's ass the night she showed up in the hotel begging for a room? Do you think she made that up? Yes, Ike should get credit for his musical talents and he has - he's in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame - but sorry, no pass on the abuse.

I didn't know Ike died.....I love their (Ike and Tina) music. I know whenever I hear their names, the first thing I think about is the reports of drug use and abuse. Seems a good reputation is easier to earn then it is to defend.

Everyone has faults. Not everyone records the first rock record. In fact no one else could have done it. I've heard about the evil Ike all my life. I'm glad someone remembers that he was the first block in the foundation of Rock and Roll. Very well done Kayla

Great article Kayla. Like PL, I tend to believe Tina, but I don't think his death is the time to focus on it. Great job. :-)

Yeah, I heard about this a few hours ago. Good timing, Kayla and good article!

It seems to me that the abuse was pretty well documented and is accepted widely as fact. Granted, Tina Turner became a much larger star than Ike, but to say that the abuse "isn't important anymore" is an insult to her. It seems that she should be the only one who can determine the importance of years of beatings, drugs, and demoralizing behavior.
