We all like to save money on Christmas gifts. We spend the Christmas season searching for the best deals possible. People wake up early and stay out late, all hoping to save a few bucks on Christmas presents. How many times have you fought long lines at a mall during the Christmas season and wished that there was an easier way? Well, I'm here to offer you just that.

Begin your Christmas shopping on December 26.

A few months ago, I wrote an article in which I stated that it was to your advantage to begin Christmas shopping in the month of October. I'm not denying that following that plan is a good idea. Beginning your shopping for next Christmas right after this December 25, however, is an even better plan.

Let's be realistic. There is a better than good chance that you're going to have to make the trip to at least one store after Christmas in order to return a gift. Once you get to that store, you'll probably notice all of the ridiculous sales going on at the store. This is your chance to take advantage of those sales.

As with any Christmas shopping, it's never a good idea to head into post-Christmas shopping blind. Make a small list of what you like to buy and for whom. This will help you keep to an after-Christmas budget, which is always a good idea. You've already spent more than enough money for the Christmas that just took place!

You may have a few questions about buying next year's Christmas presents right after this Christmas. Here are a few of those questions and some answers to those questions.

What should you look for when you begin your Christmas shopping directly after Christmas?

I can't decide if I'm more impressed by your pursuit of bargains or more dismayed by making plans 364 days in advance.

I've heard of people who start shopping for next year on Boxing Day (26th December). I'm sure many people who celebrate this holiday will find this advice practical. Sophie

I like your caveats.

Excellent ideas! When I used to work retail, I discovered that many folks would buy next year's Christmas gifts on Dec 26, then hang onto them til next Christmas. The downside is that the poor person on the other end wouldn't be able to return or exchange the item if it didn't fit or was defective.
