A true foodie will eat, sleep and dream about food. Their cupboards will be well stocked and they will have stacks of recipes books at their disposal. They will watch the Food Network and visit the Food Network website regularly sometimes even disagree with celebrity chefs on their use of ingredients. But can you class yourself as a true foodie if you hardly ever cook? This article will explore this topic.

Full-time Work

Having just considered what motivates a foodie and how a foodie feels about food, the image of a foodie who hardly ever sets foot into the kitchen can be hard to grasp. After all, isn't cooking at the very centre of a true foodie's life? Not necessarily. A foodie's passion for food does not mean that they have the time or the energy to spend hours in the kitchen each day. Even a foodie has to earn a living rather than watch hours of cookery shows and pour over cookery books. Many foodies work in industries that are not at all related to their passion for food. To them, it is a way to earn a living. As such, when a foodie gets home after a long day at work, their first thoughts will not always be about baking a cake or trying out a new chicken stew recipe. They will want to relax.

Children

Full-time work is not the only commitment that keeps foodies out of the kitchen for most of the day. Children require attention, particularly babies and toddlers, who will need to be more closely supervised than older children. But even with older children to care for, the avid foodie may not have the time to spend in the kitchen, as they have to help their children get their homework, projects and research completed. By the time all of the children's schoolwork has been completed and chores have been accomplished, parents will not always have the energy to prepare a gourmet meal for dinner. A 30 minute meal or less is more likely to be the outcome of a long day at work as well as hours spent helping children on their homework.

Lack of Experience

Takeaways
  • Some foodies cannot devote much time to cooking because of full-time employment
  • Caring for children takes much time and energy
  • Some foodies are inexperienced in the kitchen

Can I be a wanna-be foodie? LOL I love watching Food Network, but don't have the patience to actually do that kind of cooking for myself.
