A dark cloud looms over all of baseball today as the release of the George Mitchell Report is expected this afternoon. For those familiar with baseball, they are well aware of the impact that this report could have on the sport. For those unfamiliar with the sport of baseball, let me just begin by saying that this could indeed be a dark day for the sport and perhaps much more.

The Mitchell Report is an ongoing investigation performed by the federal government. This report looks into the use of illegal performance enhancing drugs throughout the sport. This lengthy report is part of an investigation that has lasted several years and has finally come to completion.

Though the specifics of this report are yet to be released at the time of this writing, early speculation and some confirmed sources tell of a darker side of the sport of baseball based on the findings of this report.

The Mitchell Report is believed to name up to 80 players both active and retired from the sport of baseball that have used or received shipment of both illegal steroids and growth enhancement drugs. Though the names on this list are not yet released, there is already early confirmation of a few players.

For starters, Roger Clemens, perhaps the greatest pitcher of all time it believed to be part of the list. A trainer of Clemens was brought into questioning by the federal government and it is believed that Clemens name was given by the trainer as a user of either steroids or human growth hormone. Though this has yet to be confirmed, must sources believe this statement to be accurate.

Furthermore, there is talk from at least one source that "several" current Yankees have made the list of illegal substance users. You could surely speculate as to what players made the list. You would be safe to assume that Jason Giambi, and admitted user of steroids made the list, but what about those other Yankees.
