There is a desolate, quiet sadness
As hurt like this cares little for your age
It tires the soul as each Sunday you find
You must now try harder to hide your rage

Contempt-filled words and abhorrence-fueled fists
Were quiet and still in front of the world
Verses were quoted as bones were broken
A mother's defender? Her little girl.

I was raised to know about a Father
By one who never really seemed to see
All the lies. All the stories. All this hate.
Hypocrisy choking the life from me.

Though I lived years in a hellish nightmare
Each day I had to put on a façade
The Truth one day revealed Itself to me -
You are my Father and you are my God.

Anger melted into sweet peacefulness
A heart that was torn apart became like new
Bitterness and brokenness, all swept away
I found a Father's Love revealed in You.

This is a very touching poem Rebecca. You skillfully captured the journey from pain to peace in this poem and I applaud you.

Rebecca, this was such a powerful piece. I loved the phrase "abhorrence-fueled fists." I first thought it was the child's actual father but then reading on, and thinking deeper, it has to do with the Father of the Holy Trinity.
