It's easy to stick to the top 10 New Year's Resolutions when you start off with reasonable expectations. If you fell short of reaching your New Year's Resolutions this past year, why not take them down a notch an aim for attainable resolutions.

Be Reasonable

The best way to stick to your New Year's Resolutions is to make them reasonable. For example, many people make New Year's Resolutions that involve being healthier, or losing weight. those are both excellent ideas for New Year's Resolutions, but you need to set reasonable goals for yourself. If you don't exercise at all now now, do not set a goal to "exercise two hours a day five or seven days a week." Not only is that unreasonable for most people's schedules, it's also not necessary to exercise that much.

Be Specific

If you want to lose weight is a worthy New Year's Resolution, but it is too general. it is too easy to ignore it, or to dismiss small weight loss. Instead, determine a healthy amount of weight to lose and set that as your weight loss goal, for the year, not for the first three months of the year.

Or, if your New Year's Resolution is to work less and spend more time with your family, determine a day of the week when you will make an attempt to do that. Mark the calendar, and commit to that day.

If you want to save more money, decide on a total amount for the year, or per paycheck. Use an automated savings plan.

Be Flexible

In order for your New Year's Resolution's to work, you need to be flexible. Because you set very specific goals, above, you can more easily gauge your progress. If your weight loss has been successful, which it usually is in the first three months of the year, adjust your goal to maintain a certain weight loss. Or if you feel ambitious, and it is within your healthy weight range, tack on another goal of a three to five pound weight loss.

Set a Timeline

The problem with New Year's Resolution's is that we all expect to see results immediately. Serious New Year's Resolution that affect our health, our finances, and our lifestyle, all take time to work.

Excellent suggestions Pam. I really like your tip to be reasonable. We all usually bite off more than we can chew (no pun intended)! Great piece!
