Currently, Thomas Friedman discusses foreign affairs including globalization, environmentalism, terrorism, and the Iraq war in his weekly columns for The New York Times. He has become experienced in these fields through many travels around the world and through extensive interviews various individuals. He wrote his first book From Beruit to Jeusalem based on his travels in the Middle East. He went on to write Lexus and the Olive Tree, Longitudes and Attitudes, and his latest The World is Flat (Friedman, 2005).

Summary: The World is Flat

The World is Flat describes how the globe is changing faster every minute of the day and notes that the majority of individuals are not aware of these trends. It reviews the elements that have caused the alternations our world is facing and where we are headed. Friedman also explores to a small degree the effects this is having on various cultures. To defend his opinion about this path of rapid globalization Friedman using his experiences through travels and interviews with CEO's and educators. He begins with an explanation of how he cam to realize the world is flattening and describes the 10 flatteners he believes is making the world flat including work flow software, uploading, outsourcing, offshoring, and insourcing. Then he illustrates the flat world with America, developing countries, companies, individuals, and geopolitics.
