I'm self-publishing this short article because I don't understand how these things work and thought some experienced Associated Content writers might. If photos can be rated, commented upon and linked to Digg (although I'm not sure why someone would want to Digg a photo, unless it was graphic or uni
que), does that skew or affect content views and ratings systems here?

Thanks for reading this.

I am intentionally NOT including a photo with this. THis isn't a plug for voting for my photos. Many of my articles don't have them.

  • Where do photos fit into the rating system
  • Photos can be commented on and rated
  • How does this affect performance views - or does it

It is interesting self publishing a question as a short article. Have you done this with any other questions and was the response what you hoped for? It's almost like a Yahoo Answers but at least searchable outside of the Forum. Interesting. I am trying whenever possible to take my own photos as it seems to take a lot of time to search for the perfect photo. Whenever possible though, I try to make sure not only is the photo captioned with my keywords but the file name itself I use includes a keyword phrase. Many people search on Google Images so if my photo has a keyword phrase people can then link back to the original AC article.

I create my own photos because when I offer ideas, lesson plans or crafts, I have used them at home.

I only use PUBLIC DOMAIN illustrations, royalty-free clipart, or photos for which I have express permission. Even so, AC occasionally deletes them. I think there may be a size and pixel requirement. Not sure how rating affects page views or earnings, although I have noticed that it is possible to rate photos, if you ENLARGE them. Great question!

I'm not sure. Great question though.

Any photo that I don't take from wikipedia gets deleted, so now I only use photos from wiki. And most of the time if I have a showcased article they change the photo to something they like better.

Seems like they draw attention to an article for sure, and you will notice that when you are featured, they will always add a picture. Having said that though, I don't have the ability to include them with my articles at this time.

I have no idea but if I am writing a travel review I love to put my photographs in.

Speaking from experience alone ... photos do seem to help page views, simply for two reasons: they illustrate the article's summary when they're new, which draws attention, and they help an article look much more professional. Their ratings have nothing to do with an article's rating, though. It's a completely separate thing, which is why a photo's rating can only be accessed if you enlarge one.
