In this overly sensitive era in which we find ourselves living in, I have had on more that one occasion been asked what is RedNeck Riches and why did you name your blog that.

RedNeck Riches is the blog I started recently to explore and bring to light some of the rich treasures of small town life.

Small town life is full of rich treasures not always enjoyed by bigger city dwellers and many cases distorted by Hollywood and Major Medias.
My blog was started to dispel these mischaracterizations.

The term RedNeck made famous of course by Jeff Foxworthy paints a picture that is by some considered offensive but, in reality the term Red Neck more accurately describes individuals who have worked outdoors in the sunlight for most of their life developing a darkened reddish neck.

Many of these hardworking out doors type make up the majority in the small town that I live in northwest Florida and have earned my deep respect.
Generations of farmers and outdoors folks who live, work, worship, and take care of their neighbors in special ways.

RedNeck Riches Blog is my attempt to change the perception of the stereotype image associated with these hardworking folks I have come to appreciate.

I can give several examples of the sweet life here in the small town but, none better than just the summer of 2007 when my house caught fire in the early hours of the morning. The sun had not set that day before I had many in my community personally come to me with clothes, cash, and offers of help in many different variations.

At a time when one would feel alone and lost, I felt cared for and grateful to be living in such a community.

Many of the individuals who come to my aid without the prodding of some big organization or government were indeed Rednecks by definition and heroes to me in reality.

So the next time you hear the term redneck my hope is that you will think of the everyday folks who make up small town America. The hardworking country folks who still wave at everyone whether they know them or not just because it is a nice thing to do, the small town folks who will still stop if you broke down beside the road, and be right by your side if troubles come your way.
