For many people, New Year's Eve is a time to go out to parties with friends and family. These events are a great way to ring in the new year. I, however, will be spending most of New Year's Eve alone. You see, the wife got very lucky in that she doesn't have to work at all during Christmas week. However, to do so, she had to sacrifice her New Year's Eve night. That's not too big a deal for us as neither one of us really care a whole lot about New Year's Eve. Don't get me wrong. I enjoy the day. It's just not all that important to me.

There are plenty of you out there who will be in the same situation this year. For one reason or another, you may find yourself alone on New Year's Eve night. This doesn't have to be that big of a deal. Here is how you can spend New Year's Eve night alone.

How to spend New Year's Eve alone tip #1: Treat it like a normal day

Just because everybody around you is going crazy on New Year's Eve doesn't mean that you have to do the same. Almost every place, including all stores, will be open on New Year's Eve. You could run errands during the day or even get some things down around your house. You could even get to bed early if you really want. There's no rule that says you have to stay up until midnight on New Year's Eve.

How to spend New Year's Eve alone tip #2: Rent some movies

New Year's Eve is a great time to catch up on some movies that you may have missed. Go to your local video store and rent a movie or two. There is also always movie marathons on television during New Year's Eve for those people not interested in watching the ball drop. This is a nice alternative if you want to save money.

How to spend New Year's Eve alone tip #3: Take the time to create resolutions for the new year

Spending New Year's Eve alone gives you time to think about the past year and what you would like to change. Sometime during the evening, write out some resolutions for the upcoming year. If you did so for the previous year, review those and see how well you kept those resolutions.

How to spend New Year's Eve alone tip #4: Order out

Sounds like most have the choice - but what about people like me without friends or families? I am alone throughout the year, just once it would have been nice to have something to look forward to.

Excellent tips. Being alone on New Year's is not a bad thing. Being at a bad party can be. Happy New Year.

I plan to be alone and enjoy it! No kiddos! I'll put on a good Josh Groban CD, drink a warm latte and go to bed early!... Welcome 2008!

Good suggestions, Zac. Many people make such a big fuss, that those who are alone may feel that they are really missing out. Sophie
