Black & Decker Edge Hog 2-1/4 HP Electric Landscape Edge: Review

The Black & Decker has been into making landscape edges for more than two decades and the 2-1/4 HP Electric Edge Hog is the latest addition to the product line and no doubt the best of all creations so far. Thos heavy duty machine can handle high work volume and is more efficient than my previous 3.5HP gas cutter. This works silently without disturbing anyone and gets the work done like breeze. This user friendly equipment does not take much of time for assembling and once set into action this can be used for edging as well as trenching. The best feature is that it is electrically operated equipment and does not require oil or gas to run it.

All it requires to get into motion is a single trigger and it gets automatically shut down once it is released. So the B$D Edge Hog 2-1/4 HP can be run easily unlike the gas edging machines. This is not heavy and hence can be taken all along the garden and lawn shaping the bushes and maintaining the grass with ease. I find this can be navigated across the curved path easily and if it is used even in a plain lawn without any prior edging, this is not that efficient. While edging if sucks more mud and filth, it makes the process gets tougher.

This apparatus is well designed and built strong, but poor and ineffective instructions in the manual fail to fully unravel the potential of this equipment. If only the instructions were more informative and some pictures were included in the manual, this edging machine would have been a super hit on the market. For instance the manual recommends starting the motor before starting with the work. But this is not a good idea. I have found an easy way out and use shovel and hand to find the real edge. The B &D does a better job than the expensive Sears model and cuts the grass closely. This handy tool is compact and is environment friendly because it does not pollute the garden with gas.
