I always have on hand health bars of one kind or another. I find that they are great when I am working as a caregiver, in a client's home. I never know when I will be cooking for them, or if they are going to just eat toast for supper. Many caregivers will just help themselves to the client's food, but I always love to have a healthy meal bar.

The latest one I have been eating is Pure Protein high protein double layer bar. I received a coupon for a free bar. I enjoyed it so I purchased another one in Wal-Mart for $1.37 which is the best price I could find. The flavor I chose was S'mores.

The taste and texture.

When biting into the Pure Protein bar the outside is chocolate flavor. Then the next layer is the marshmallow filling. Next is the hard chewy bit, with caramel just below it. The chocolate and marshmallow layer just melt in your mouth. They have a really great taste. Next the caramel is good and easy to chew. Finally you are left with the heart of the bar. The hard layer of the bar almost has a woody texture. Just watch out if you have false teeth, this bar almost lifted my bottom dentures. It has a cookie taste to it. I checked on the ingredients, and it has Graham cookie bits in it, so this is what I must be tasting. After I finish each bite I find little bits of fiber in my mouth. The after taste of each bite is vanilla, which I do like.

The bar is very filling. I find that as a snack I only need to eat half to satisfy my pangs of hunger. If I am having one as a replacement for a meal, when working, then the bar will keep me going on a 15-hour night shift.

A little about the product.

It states on the packet: "Great new taste". It has 3 net carbs. This is worked out on the back of the packet for low carb dieters. "Total carbs 19. Less sugar alcohol 13. Less glycerin 3. Equals 3 net carbs. It has 19 grams of Protein. 0 grams of trans fat. It says that it is naturally and artificially flavored. The bar has a net weight of 1.76 oz. (50g.) It also states "America's Protein Bar".

S'mores is a super idea. I saw Smores cookies on tv-they were made like raviolis with the outside being graham cracker. The woman did them with a ravioli press.

Great review, one just cannot eat a Mars Bar or you will fail the drugs test, so always read the content of anything you eat if you are competing!
