The year is almost over and it is time to look at some of the best sports teams of 2007. 2007 was a great year for the Florida Gators football and basketball team. It was a great year for the Indianapolis Colts, Phoenix Mercury, San Antonio Spurs, the Lady Vols basketball team, the Anaheim Ducks and the Boston Red Sox.

College Football:

The team of the year in college football is the Florida Gators. I go by the date of the Championship to base my selection. However, this season though they fell out of the National Championship race they did have the 2007 Heisman Trophy Winner in Tim Tebow. The Florida Gators had finished 2006 12-1. On January 8, 2008 the Florida Gators defeated Ohio State 41-14 in the National Championship Game played in Arizona.

College Basketball:

The University of Florida had another championship team to celebrate besides their football team. On April 2, 2007 The Florida Gators basketball team won their second consecutive National Championship defeating, ironically enough, the Ohio State Buckeyes 84-75 in Atlanta, Georgia. The Gators finished with a 35-5 record. Three players on that team were drafted in the first round of the NBA draft. Al Horford was picked third by the Atlanta Hawks, Corey Brewer picked 7th by the Minnesota Timberwolves, and Joakim Noah was picked 9th by the Chicago Bulls.

On April 3, 2007 The Tennessee Volunteers won the woman's NCAA Basketball Championship over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights 59-46.

NFL

The New England Patriots are undefeated so far this season. However, keeping consistent to the year Championships are awarded the 2007 team of the year in the NFL is the Indianapolis Colts. The Indianapolis Colts defeated the Chicago Bears 29-17 in Super Bowl XLI in Miami on February 4, 2007. Peyton Manning was named the MVP.

WNBA

In May the Phoenix Mercury won the WNBA Championship. They defeated the Detroit Shock 3 games to 2 in a best of 5 series. The Mercury had to win the last two games for the Championship. They won the last game 108-92.

..And to think my Mets could have made Team of the Year had they not decided to choke last September. They certainly would have beat the Rockies and the Red Sox had they kept their momentum. Oh well, there's always this season which is approaching at rapid speed =)

Even though I'm a lifelong Yankee fan, I'm happy for the Red Sox fans that they took the Series this year. And thanks again, you just gave me ANOTHER article idea!
