The great philosophy emphasizes the importance of man and his potential. Of all the creations in the universe man is unique. It assigns him a separate place in the universe. He alone is endowed with the faculty of discrimination.

It places before man a purpose in life. This is to realize god. His faculties of mind, body and intellect are considered as assets with which he has to reach the goal of self-realisation. For this right from his childhood directions are given to act wisely. The most important feature of this philosophy is that it recognises the divinity in man. It declares he is the spirit, which is the same as the unversal spirit.

He is asked to convince himself by sheer logic and always identify with the spirit, which is without beginning and end. The body is perishable and it is only a means to attain the supreme truth of godhood. Bu utilizing the faculties of mind, intellect and the senses he is equipped to discharge his responsibilities assigned to him by his position in society in the best manner possible.

Mind control is emphasized and various techniques are evolved. Meditation is the most important technique. The body has to be nurtured, preserved and maintained. For this yoga with proper breathing is advised. The intellect is meant to entertain noble and positive thoughts only. The technique of meditation is expected to cleanse the mind and intellect and canalise thoughts towards the Supreme.

For attaining the purpose in life man is given freedom to act using his faculties in the most appropriate manner. He has different roles in different stages of life. His life span of 100 years is divided into four stages.

The first stage is called brahmacharya (celibacy). This is the period up to 25 years when the boy learns essentials for good living and acquires knowledge. He has to develop mind control and concentration. He is expected to conserve his vital energies and resources within. Celibacy is advocated to preserve his energies and use it for a higher purpose as in the case of stored water in a dam.
