Super Bowl 33, My Favorite Super Bowl

Elway Does it Again

Many people watch the Super Bowl for the commercials. I usually do. They are so funny sometimes. But if you do have a favorite NFL team then you will watch just to see them play in the Super Bowl. So, in 1997 and 1998 when
the Denver Broncos played with John Elway at the helm I couldn't help but watch in awe. Those two Super Bowls were not about the commercials for me. No, they were about watching my favorite team make history.

John Elway can really pass the football. But he was a master at the two-minute drill. Those plays were where the thrill came into for everyone. Because the pressure from the clock was bigger than that of the opposing defense. But Elway stayed calm and in control under those grueling conditions. I loved to watch Elway take the team down to the red zone, into the end zone and onto a huge win during those two Super Bowls. In Super Bowl 33, John Elway's stats were impressive: 18/29 passes for 336 yards. One touch down pass. And he scored a 3-yard rushing TD, all earning him the MVP of the game. And Elway did this all as the oldest player ever to be named MVP of the Super Bowl. I will always remember when he hoisted the Super Bowl trophy with his number 7 blazing strong on his jersey.

Let us keep in mind that Elway was not a one man team. He really had a tremendous cast of characters around him to help him implement the master plan. At the running back position was Terrell Davis. He was one of the best backs in ages. And that man ran that football with a migraine that didn't stop him from helping the Broncos secure another NFL Title. Not to be left out was the ever popular tight end Shannon Sharpe. I loved to watch Sharpe because he was so great at his position, he has great moves and he was a character. Then in the wide receiver spots were two of my favorites, Rod Smith and Ed McCaffery. What a great bunch of players to complete the Offensive Line. What an arsenal of tools at John Elway's disposal. That entire team was totally amazing to watch. That year Mike Shanahan put together one of the most memorable teams of all time.
