You Who Are Spiritual

People sometimes seek for a connection which reassures them. It may be a reassurance of identity. It may be of a purpose for living. Sometimes it's a no-man's land, free-for-all and anything-goes world as to how that connection is attained. People resort to thread their own way in their quest to a spiritual awakening, an experience, a demonstrative proof of a spiritual experience.

Some of the popular means for attaining that spiritual connection (perhaps more of a participation and involvement than a connection) include "click to forward" emails with a love message or some angelic image. The message often admonishes the recipient to forward it and, "you'll be blessed" or do nothing and lose out on the blessings. Yet another means for exhibiting one's spirituality may be a bumper sticker, pendant or tattoo as outward, visible demonstrations of the individual's belief, quest or attainment of spirituality. Further out on a limb, one cannot overlook the seeming cavalier fascination and immersion in the horror movie genre. The effect people seek is not so much "scare-me-spiritual", but "scare-my-spirit" as a way of getting a "spiritual buzz". These movies include both benign and violent acts by spirits of the dead and a lot of evil by people on people, generally.

Even among practitioners of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam and Judaism there is a marked lack of understanding and spiritual life in accordance with their own sacred writings. Whatever the term, whether, "spiritual", "spirituality", "spiritualness" used by these different beliefs the point remains: Namely, that believers often have little understanding of the faith they profess.

Yes, something as seemingly vague as spiritual can be difficult to grasp, but shouldn't one expect their own belief ("religion") to lead believers to a maturity where they connect with the Spirit, as defined in their sacred writings? Is it too much to expect one's spiritualiy to connect with their daily lives at work and play?
