New Pee Wee Herman Movies on the Way Says Paul Reubens

Recently I published an article about the return of Pee  Wee's Playhouse to television, courtesy of Cartoon Networks's Adult Swim.   I questioned whether the return of Pee Wee in rerun form might also spark a return of new Pee Wee in the same way that Adult Swim helped to bring back new episiodes of Futurama, scheduled for next year.  It appears to be so.

In a recent interview Pee Wee Herman creator Paul Reubens announced that one new Pee Wee Herman movie will into production within the year and another will follow.  The first movie is going to be extension of Pee Wee's Playhouse, except that it will take place mostly outside the playhouse.  It will be a road trip, much like Pee Wee's Big Adventure, in which Pee Wee meets several characters from the show along the way.

Reubens didn't confirm or deny whether such modern day stars who got their start on Pee Wee's Playhouse like Laurence Fishburne or S. Epatha Merkerson would reprise those roles.
