Dear Sis,

You sound like me (in the letter you sent), trying to cover everything in my mind and still see light in there somewhere. We're definitely going through a minor chord time -- maybe there should be jingle bells, but on the inside, as you say, the season has just snuck up on us and we don't know what to make of it. And of course it's election time again--or campaigning time--and all the rich power brokers and wannabees are sucking up to the people as if they really care about what ails us and know exactly what to do to solve everything...that being, fight with each other to get elected and wield that ol' power.

You're right to focus on the little things you appreciate, like the pets, and maybe the pretty picture the snow makes. And you don't need to send me any cookies this year, I would hardly know what to do with them since the refrigerator is full of junk the locals have brought around for each of us veterans--where my mind's at this morning (it's 5:30 in the morning, just got up at 5) it makes me wonder how much of the "good" that people do, or try to do--whether ordinary folks or rich power brokers--really gets at the problems we have.
