You’ve seen them all over the internet. Some host silly little meme’s and fun, online quizzes. Others host rants and raves, and some hold personal thoughts and events. You have decided that you want to have one too, but you aren’t sure where to start. There are so many to choose from, and they all tailor to different needs. Well, here’s your one stop guide.

First you need to think about what you want to blog about. Do you want just a journal for your personal thoughts? A place to put online quizzes? Would you like to post your artwork? Or do you want to share your opinion on things with the world?

BlogSpot is a blog that seems to be aimed towards the older crowd. People use it to keep in touch with families across the country (or world), post opinions on world affairs or whatever they’re passionate about. It’s a great way to start, however. It’s easy enough to figure out, and offers you just what you want, a place to blog.

LiveJournal is a great way to keep in contact with friends and join communities of your interest. You can get it for free, or update it for a small cost to get more options, including more user pictures (some people like to go a little crazy with their icons!). You have a ‘friends page,’ which is a whole page showing you each of the entries that your friends have made, and a plethora of communities to join if your heart so desires. You also have the option to lock your entries so that only your friends can view them.

DeadJournal isn’t as well known, but it is a lot like LiveJournal. It offers many of the same features. It’s a great way to keep in contact with your friends if you aren’t into doing what’s popular.

Takeaways
  • The possibilities on Myspace are huge.
  • Livejournal is a great way to keep in touch with friends.
  • Xanga appeals to the younger age group.
Did You Know?
With myspace, you can put a song directly on your page that will play every time you open the page.

Nice write up. I've never heard of deadjournal, but it sounds cool. I have use both blogger and myspace. But I think of blogger as an actual site/blog and myspace is like a collection of links to other things I'm involved with, with pics and music, and a network of friends.
