In the nation's midsection millions of people are trying to thaw out from the winter storm and get their power restored while the Northeast is told to expect an even colder double winter storm starting on Thursday that should blanket most of the region in a foot or more of snow fall.

The winter weather storm that froze most of the Midwest states is expected to arrive in the Northeast on Thursday morning before lunch time according to NBC Weather Plus meteorologist Bill Karins.

"Everyone will get to work just fine, but getting home should be ugly," he said. "A heavy burst of snow and sleet will fall from New York City to southern New England, especially between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.

And South of New York City there will be more sleet mixing in and which will cut down on snow totals, but it will still make it a slick ride home for everyone and we could see this as far south as Philadelphia", he said.

"The Snow totals from the first storm could be 4-6 inches in Boston, New York City and other Northeast areas. Philadelphia could possibly see as much of an inch of snow", Karins said.

"There is a second storm that is making its way from the Pacific Northwest, through Texas and then southern Plains states on Friday it should reach the Northeast with some rain by Saturday night. Along the way there could be as much as 12-18 inches of snow in some areas.

Then by Saturday night heavy snow and blizzard conditions are likely from central Pennsylvania, central New York and New England", Karins said.

The conditions for Sunday are predicted to include moderate coastal flooding at high tide in New England, wind gusts up to 70 mph on the coast and heavy snow in northern New England. Snow showers are likely from Philadelphia to southern New England.

This forecast came as utility crews and workers are struggling to repair the down power lines that snapped by the ice storm and blacked out as many as a million homes and businesses across the nation's midsection.

Repair crews, workers and homeowners still face a mixture of snow, sleet and light rain that will across parts of north Texas and central Oklahoma during the morning.
