Recently, I've talked to a lot of people who have given up using tampons due to the fact that they are known to cause staph infection. With the high number of staph infection cases that have occurred recently, it is definitely safe to say that we should all be a little bit careful when it comes to this type of infection. Do tampons really cause staph infection though, or is it really nothing more than just a myth?

Tampons Have the Potential to Cause Staph Infection

The truth is that, yes, tampons do have the potential to cause staph infection. However, it is important to keep in mind that it is likely that you have already heard about this type of staph infection. Toxic shock syndrome, which tampons are known to cause when they are worn for long periods of time, is actually a form of staph infection. Ultimately, this is the type of staph infection that tampons are known to cause. It is not exactly the same as the type of staph infection that you may have seen on the news in recent times due to the high number of cases.

It is Unlikely to Get Staph Infection From Tampons

While many people are afraid of getting Toxic Shock Syndrome from tampons, the chances of actually getting this form of staph infection are very low. At the same time, when people do contract Toxic Shock Syndrome, it is often very severe and usually fatal. This is why it is so important to do everything in your power to prevent yourself from developing staph infection, in the form of Toxic Shock Syndrome. If you plan to wear tampons, it is important to realize that there are some very simple preventative steps that you can take in order to prevent yourself from developing this type of staph infection due to tampon usage.

Staph Infection Due to Tampon Usage Can Be Easily Prevented

I'm prone to infections and tampons leak badly for me anyway, so I ended up getting cloth pads. I'll never go back!

Good information. We haven't heard much about this in the last few years, it's good for women to know that Toxic Shock Syndrome is still a possibility.
