Ron Paul, a GOP candidate in the 2008 Presidential election race, has surpassed his previous fundraising record of $3.8 million raised in a single day. On Sunday, December 16, 2007, Paul raised more than $6 million online. Yes, online. Paul's ultimate goal is to raise $12 million in online-only contributions during his campaign. In addition to breaking his own personal record, Paul's $6 million windfall will go down in history as the largest single-day fundraising effort in the United States. The previous record was held by John Kerry during the 2004 Presidential race; Kerry's record was $5.7 million.

Unfortunately for Paul his large online following, and record-breaking fundraising campaign, does not equate high ranking in the polls. Earlier this month the National Journal Group (NJG) ranked Ron Paul dead last out of the six Republican candidates. According to the NJG, "You really get the sense that the campaign is raising more money than it knows what to do with. Until he proves he can use this money to push a message that lures Republicans to his cause (i.e., less government), we're not going to view him as a serious player who could overtake any of the top five."

Ron Paul is a member of Congress, serving in the House of Representatives and representing the 14th Congressional District of Texas. Paul first served in Congress in the 1970s and 1980s and then took a break to practice medicine with a specialty in obstetrics and gynecology. Paul re-entered Congress in 1997 and currently serves on the House Committee on Financial Services and the House Committee on Foreign Affairs.

LMAO @ "Unfortunately for Paul his large online following, and record-breaking fundraising campaign, does not equate high ranking in the polls. Now that Paul scored 10% in the Iowa caucus and won Jefferson County with 36% of the vote, what does the NJG have to say now? Ron Paul is going to kick some serious ass in the upcoming primaries.

well, I guess there was a limit on comment length. Anyways.... look up "Fractional Reserve Banking" "how the FED was created" "boom/bust cycles and why they occur" "Austrian Economics/Von Mises Institute" This will get you started. Americans need to wake up and see what is happening right before their eyes.

If you would just research history, you will find that Ron Paul speaks volumes about how to save this country. I challenge you to look into the pre-1913 economy and what money was. Look into who started the FED and how "fractional reserve banking" works. Ron Paul isn't advocating we go back to the days of 1912 and go back to riding on horses or using a telegraph to communicate. He wants sound monetary policy, not a monetary policy created by "private interests/banks" that create money from thin air by printing it. Doing this only dilutes the power of your dollar. The people that save are being penalized for saving because the value of their dollar is dwindling while prices are going up. We live in a society that has been taught that debt is good and we remain slaves to the people we owe money to. As for our money having an intrinsic value, the best way I can put it for people that haven't a clue on how this works is like this.... a $20 gold piece (about an ounce of gold

Oops, typo meant million. I realize that it takes money to buy those TV ad slots and travel to campaign and pay all those people for doing the mailings~oops RP's support team uses internet flaming to garner support~saves him a bundle on the old fashion way of making phone calls and mail like the other candidates workers do. It makes me ill to see the millions that candidates are raising for their campaigns and bragging on themselves. I would be impressed with a candidate like Jimmy Carter that volunteers to build homes for humanity.

I was at a local City Council meeting last night. Learned a lot about military surplus property and accepted reuse of the land. Some neighbors do not want LB's soon to be vacated base used as a mental health/homeless drop-in center & police Substation. Next on the agenda was approval for the new tall tower~costing millions to build. When I left I saw a couple of dozen homeless huddled under a library overhang to stay out of the rain. The rainy day shelter can only serve 125 homeless in a city with 4 to 6 thousand homeless. Wonder why Ron Paul can raise 6 billion and cities can not find enough money to build affordable housing or shelters for the homeless.

"1912 economics" what is wrong with having money that is worth something. OPEC is doing studies on their product and the US $. Our money only has value because the global energy trade is done in US$. If OPEC desides to change to EU$ we are in trouble. Having real money would protect your hard earned money. Read Ron Paul's comments on the inflation tax.

Nice article. Personally I don't want to go back to 1912 era economics among other things so Ron Paul has no appeal to me.

Thanks for the comment Cynthia. Ya know I haven't even picked a favorite in this election yet - I'm still kind of taking it in. I do like new ways of thinking though. :)
