Blog it, baby! Blogging a day will keep the writing blues away.

These should be the mantras and thundering war cries of serious web writers. They really should be official motto of every serious writer or content producer period. Blogs are not the cutesy or narcissistic playthings of early Internet days. Blogs have come of age and make no mistake; they're no cyber toys.

Here's some of my tips and advice.

Blog Fog

Navigating through all the blog fog isn't always easy. There's lots of blogs to choose from. Nearly all the main search engines also host and help maintain them. Who to choose as host? That will be a personal choice.

Of many choices, Google remains a strong blog resource. You'll find the interface easy, intuitive and so advanced in features that it comes close to a more professional looking website. Your needs determine how advanced you want your blog to be and function, but photo slide shows, audio, artwork and even video capabilities can all be exploited within Google's blog offerings. The popular Google Ad Sense program can also bring in revenue for your considerable blogging efforts. Best of all, Google blogs are absolutely free.

If you just want to show off some poetry or fiction, jot down your pithy daily thoughts or offer up comedic observations on society, a text based no frills blog will be fine. You may be looking for a more advanced or commercial blog outlet, which can be achieved through careful planning and utilizing your hosting site's tools.

Blog Focus

What to blog about? Is it just personal tidbits or serious business? Again, a need based and personal approach will decide for you.

A family member of mine is incredibly artistic when it comes to designing arts and crafts. Her craft filled blog would not only provide visitors with practical craft information, but would showcase her designs. She could provide all her contact information, rates at special designs on commission and much more. Unlike many websites, a blog's focus doesn't have to be all inclusive or so encompassing. It's your site; make it become your personal statement to the world.

Who Else Should Blog?

At one time I had 6 blogs. Actually more, because joining sites, like Care 2 dot com, they give users blogs and I have no idea how many others I had that I could not keep up with and come to think of it, I still have 6 blogs. I just decided that blog posts are better than writing articles for Associated Content. I blogged about why. : >

I'm thinking about this for 2008...thank you for your personal take on blogging. I won't make this a resolution though as I usually don't keep them;)

I agree with you, even though I don't yet have a lot of traffic on my blogs, which are located on MySpace, PNN.com, Blogger.com, and WordPress.com.
