New York, the place where many fashion trends start, home of the Garment District, The Fashion Institute of Technology, and also the home of some dumb laws. Not surprisingly, a lot of the dumb New York laws center around fashion faux pas.

Take for example, the law that states that slippers are not be worn after 10pm. This would be such a fashion mistake! Women are not allowed to wear high heels in the city limits of Camel. Exactly what kind of shoe can be worn without threat of arrest?

Another major fashion crime would be if you walked around on Sunday with an ice cream cone in your pocket. Fashionable to do Wednesday, just not on Sunday.

It is illegal on any day of the week for a woman to be on the street wearing body hugging clothing. A woman can go topless in public, providing it is not being used as a business. That law is worded so strangely, that only a New York lawyer, or perhaps a New York fashion designer, could understand it. A topless woman in public is ok, providing 'it' is not being used as a business. 'It' what? The woman's top, the woman's appendages, or the woman herself?

New York is not prejudiced against women, it is illegal for a man to go topless on the Board Walk in Ocean City. Carmel, New York also requires a man to have on a matching jacket and pants before going outside. Equal rights for the fashion conscious.

New Yorkers are not only concerned about how they look, but also about when and how they eat. You can not eat ice cream while standing on the side walk, you can not eat while you are swimming, and people may not slurp their soup.

Etiquette is also a big issue with New Yorkers. While riding in elevators, you are supposed to fold your hands, face the elevator door and speak to no one. You can not greet someone by putting your thumb to your nose and wiggling your fingers. During a concert, it is illegal to eat peanuts and walk backwards on the side walk.

Divorce will be hard to obtain in New York, because before a divorce can be granted for irreconcilable differences, both parties must agree. You could not get a divorce on grounds of spousal abuse either, because it is illegal to throw a ball at someone's head for the fun of it.
