The much-anticipated finale of the second season of the hit drama Dexter aired on Showtime last night at 9 with an immediate repeat at 10. At the close of the show, fans scurried to sho.com for a special post-finale event.

Prior to the finale, message boards were on fire with all kinds of speculation as to the outcome of the second season. How was Dexter going to resolve his issues with Sergeant Doakes and Lila? Who is going to die? Plot lines and hypotheses were analyzed and reanalyzed. Fans were consoling each other as the prospect of forty weeks without our favorite show was imminent. What are we to do over the next nine months? People offered up other ideas for decent tv shows. Others debated the value of reading the book series, written by Jeff Lindsay. The books and the tv series each take Dexter Morgan down two different paths, creating a sort of parallel universe for our favorite serial killer. Fanatics like myself enjoy the two versions, while others beg to remain true to only one or the other.

As soon as the opening credits began, Dexter fans stayed logged on, but were glued to their television sets. When the first explosive event took place, posts started popping up on the message boards. Many were delighted, some were skeptical, and a few were disappointed. And the drama kept unfolding.

We found ourselves running a gamut of emotions. We yelled, we laughed, some of us may have cried. We reveled in the brilliance of a tribute to the amazing opening credits sequence as well as Dexter's methodical plotting and scheming. And the ending, which in some ways parallels the first season's ending, left many of us feeling spent and satisfied.
