Who's your choice for president in 2008? Do you even care? Are you fed up with the cynicism and negativity the mass media crams down the public's throat day after day about the upcoming election? If you're not irritated, you haven't been paying attention. I, too, am tired of the shenanigans in the media, but I will not resort to apathy come next November.

Unbeknownst to all, I plan on voting in my first Presidential election not because I'm told it's the responsible thing to do, but because I want the right to criticize the government. Citizens who choose not to vote, in my view, relinquish their right to whine and wallow when they disagree with elected officials in our government. After all, it's our civic duty to vote in elections, whether they are local, state or federal. Our freedoms and rights are what make America the greatest country in the world and taking them for granted seems un-American.

What's more, I look forward to the right to criticize Hillary's support to let illegal's obtain driver's licenses, Mitt Romney's proposal for America to adopt Mormonism as its official religion (far fetched) and any other prospective candidate's proposals or bright ideas.

A quick glance at the candidates leaves me scratching my head. A Mormon, a Law and Order star, a Comedy Central icon, a Libertarian, a woman, an African American and a Hispanic, among others, head the field. Who is the candidate most deserving of my vote?

Recently, Comedy Central's Stephen Colbert put his hat into the ring. Even though Colbert will surely receive some support from his home state of South Carolina, he is walking a fine line by mocking the campaign process and one can only wonder if he's really taken seriously by informed voters. Principally, the laughable efforts of Stephen Colbert's light-hearted yet strikingly grave attempt at a Presidential run is a far cry attempt to provide stability and honest leadership to the White House our country so desperately needs.

Takeaways
  • McCain analysis
  • Obama misconception
  • An Al Gore reference, but Germaine Clement?
