Leadership influences the quality of life in a country. Success in poverty alleviation depends on leadership striving hard to attain national objectives by persuading the people. The anti poverty objectives will not be fulfilled without right leadership for which objectives on the part of citizens are necessary. These are outlined below.

14. To evaluate leaders objectively

In a democracy leaders are elected by different sections of the population. Critical evaluation of the qualities and performance of leaders, though difficult in the context of a vast illiterate population, has to be attempted. Those who are educated and well informed must attempt to evaluate leaders in terms of competence and performance. The framework of national objectives will be helpful to the individual for comparing and judging the perspective of the leader. The citizen can evaluate whether actions of the leader are really conducive to the achievement of anti poverty results.

15. To work for the realization of national objectives

Actions of individuals have to be linked to national objectives. Otherwise, conflicts of interests arise, threatening their attainment. These objectives provide the framework within which the individual objectives are to be set. For instance, we desire prosperity. But without productivity the national objective of increased wealth will not be attained and ultimately all citizens will suffer.

Achievement in any field requires a starting point for action. Objectives provide such starting points in vital areas of economic activity. They provide direction. They help to measure the performance of anti poverty measures and to locate areas needing corrective action. The general objectives illustrated earlier are for minimizing conflicts in society so that vast resources now wasted, could be made available for anti poverty programs.
