Does true Hip hop really even exist in Baltimore city? It does indeed and D.P. Better known as the dirt platoon is one of the few acts that represent the true essence of the genre. In fact, to understand D.P. one would have to look at different aspects, such as; the story, the sound and the evolution of D.P.

It was the early 90's, when these young men dreamed and began their journey .Inspired by artist like Big Daddy Cane, Chomp Rock, and many other acts, the young men would go on to form a group. In 1997 it was official; D.P. was joining the race for hip hop stardom. The group is comprised of four members: Black Spill, TIZ a.k.a Time is money, Raf a.k.a Raf almighty and Snook da crook. When asked about the concept of the name of the group's name, the response was very simple, "We felt like the state of hip hop was all gloss and floss, so we wanted to go left, when everyone else was going right." To summarize Dirt Platoon, They are four men with four different swaggers, moods and minds that came together collectively to form one serious team. The group has become one of hip hop's elite in Baltimore.

Furthermore, the D.P. sound represents the life style of Baltimore. However it also represent to followers of the genre, real hip hop. They're sound could be considered as hip hop enlightenment. For example songs like; The Reasons, Be Thankful and Sista express their tremendous level of talent and intellect. D.P. touches on many different issues ranging form personal life struggles to more worldly issues. Each song gives the listener an opportunity to take something away from it. They promote longevity in life, love and family unity. Above all they bring that raw, gutter style that many artists' lack in today's rap. Their sound has an old school feel in addition to new school flow and tactics. Moreover the Dirt Platoon. sound has evolved over the years.
