The Latest Pet Product Craze
All it took to spread the word was a few phone calls, and soon, at least one circle of cat lovers were hooked. "They're just so cute," said Teri Brads of Denver, Colorado. "How could you not want one?"They refers to Kitty Wigs, a new product on the market. Kitty Wigs were created by Julie Jackson, and are sweeping the pet world this holiday season. Although the website www.kittywigs.com only began accepting orders December 1, already some of the more popular wigs were sold out for a period. There are wigs available as of this writing, but reports from numerous cat owners indicate that the demand is rapidly growing.
Why Kitty Wigs?
According to Jackson, was searching Flickr (www.flickr.com) for photos of cats in wigs. "Because that's the kind of thing I think about," Jackson said, "I found a few images, but noticed that all the wigs were kind of ill-fitting and not really made for cats."
That's when Jackson decided to create her own wigs for cats. "The name Kitty Wigs immediately popped into my head, so I set up the domain..." said Jackson. With the domain set up, it was only a matter of research and product development, which has culminated in a product Jackson hopes will encourage cat owners to spend more quality time with their pets.
Currently, Kitty Wigs offers four styles for cats: Pink Passion, Bashful Blonde, Silver Fox and Electric Blue. Jackson says there will be more styles and more models in early 2008.
Kitty Wigs carry a price tag of $50, and can be shipped anywhere in the United States. The order includes a round form, hairnet, instructions and a toy mouse as well as stickers and postcards designed by illustrator S. Britt. Also included is a metal Kitty Wig branded travel case for storing the wig.
Do cats actually want to wear them?
