Forex stands for foreign exchange. It is a kind of super-stock market where stocks and currency from local stock markets are traded. All the major investment companies -- Citigroup, Deutsche Bank, UBS, HSBC, Merrill Lynch, Barclays, JP Morgan Chase, ABN Amro, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and many others. Just to give you some idea of the scale -- its volume of trade is 2,000 times bigger than the New York Stock Exchange.

Stock changes hands with dazzling speed; in fact, it is a species of day trading. While the paucity possibility of a real financial beating is ever present, the possibilities of vast profits make Forex trading worth a look -- a long, careful look.

In order to get into any of these Forex markets, your best bet is to contact a large broker assistance company like one of these. You don't have to be a big investment company to get into Forex trading, but the big investors know what's hot, what has lost its luster, and where your money needs to be right now. Still, there is much you can learn on your own -- so that you know what your brokers are talking about. There are even websites where you can practice Forex trading without risking: simply google "practice Forex account."

The biggest players in Forex markets are the international banks, which control millions of dollars for investment. Earning interest on depositors' money is just one way that the banks profit from your deposits. This works in your favor, not just in making the bank more financially healthy, but in making life more convenient for you. For instance, if your bank can exchange dollars for foreign currency, then you know they are engaged in Forex trading. Any manager at your bank will be able to tell you if it is involved in Forex markets. The bank's quarterly financial information sheets, which must be freely available to the public, will also give you this information.
