I had my fair share of Catholic school plaid jumpers and white dress shirts.

School Uniform Purpose
In cities like Detroit and Jersey City, school uniforms are a great way of controlling gang attire. Many feel that uniforms are way of making children obey rules and develop work ethic. When children enter the world of work, the parent said, some will be in jobs that require them to dress in a particular way. Students already subjected to the discipline of wearing uniforms will be in a better position to comply, the parent said. Others feel that having all students dress in the same attire eliminates bullying, theft and other issues. In addition, children no longer have to worry about what to wear.

Those opposing school uniforms feel that forcing a child to dress a particular way limits their individuality and creativity. They think uniforms are directly linked to rebellion and depression. Another argument is cost and comfort. People say that uniforms or no uniforms, children will still bully other children.

There's nothing wrong with wearing uniforms. You are who you are regardless, so using the excuse of individuality is pure bull. The kids in Africa wears uniforms and some of them are poor and not one single of them are complaining. The problem is America, they took the word freedom and run away with it. Working for a store or company and have to wear a uniform, now what, are you going to tell the owner /boss you not wearing it. Wake up it's all about unity and pride, and learning how to work together as a team. If sports teams can wear them , so can the schools. Individuality can be express in many other ways. I'm from the islands and we wear them proudly, with respect and dignity.

if all school permit all students not to wear uniform, then all students will create a fashion show as nicole said...maybe some will just attend the school because they have new clothes or expensive one or whatsoever!!!...with uniforms students will not worry on what clothes they will wear...and asise from that uniforms makes us look orderly and disciplined

All kids have a choice and they have voices I am a mother of three and DO-NOT beleive in all this at all, I watched a program the other day about home schoolers in 2003 there was over 1 million through out the US, it has continued to grow and will continue untill there are no Schools left, forcing Uniforms is the wrong way giving the kids a choice is the right way it is costing paprents more now than it ever has as attendance drops the schools loose funds and the parents pickup the tab for the schools. I have heard in some areas parents have had to buy supplies for the schools on top of supplies for other that have none one lady has already spent over 500.00 just getting her First and Second grader into school and still is trying to get the money together to pay the schools fees how can this be a better way do you really know how many people strugle everyday to feed their families and now you are telling them they have to follow the rules or pay the consequenses it is all about contr

Young children's attending school in the early stage are generally dressed by there parents, becoming more and more independent and creative dressers as they grow however, when entering middle school, there should be a change and uniforms dress code is one of them. Academically at middle school, new disciplines are introduce to the students which are geared to better prepare the students to deal with the real world. Uniforms helps the student academic and social progress, and reduce the social stresses, which are inherited by a school yard environment in which children's are not wearing uniforms. Some may think that the creative nature may be taken or that they will be teased, in my opinion it's not true. Teenagers naturally are going through a biological hormonal changes which are very challenging, many social mistakes are mad at this age, teasing, humiliating, are just a sample of what kid's will inflict on each other and themselves. Writ your self a lists of the pro's & c
