Formula D is the America's drifting series, much like Japan's D1 Grand Prix. It is sponsored by the club Need for Speed and started in 2004. It boasts a of a club of a healthy respectable size, though still losing to NASCAR, which has the biggest league of fans and subscribers. However, being fans, they follow sponsors of their beloved team or drivers with out knowing much about the products or company themselves. They tend to purchase a certain brand because their idol is currently using it, or merchandise that they see their idol sporting. However, they do not stop to ponder over if an extra groove on a wheel really helps traction that much-or if the rubber quality is good.

As abovementioned, formula drifting is new to America, having only begun in 2004. Nevertheless, it has gained popularity steadily, many of whom have been converted into die hard fans. This has attracted sponsors like flies to honey-so that they may advertise through sponsoring racing events. While there are many types of sponsors, such as paint sponsors, body gear sponsors, helmets, and more, the most famous ones are the tire companies, who fight tooth and nail to be the sole tire sponsor for the event. The revenue they generate from fans who purchase similar tires is massive, hence the attraction for these companies.

Firstly, BF Goodrich tire is itself a popular tire brand which decided to boost its sales even more by jumping onto the tire-sponsoring-bandwagon. It already commands a large portion of the tire market, so sponsoring good tires is not a great deal for them. They gained a good reputation and familiarity with automobile users through sponsorships. Their tires are grooved differently from the rest and when it comes to high speed chases and races, they are often the first choice made by speed aficionados. Moreover, they have come out with rubber that does not melt even when subjected to heat and stress from high speed chases. Impressive indeed!
