January Holidays You Don't Want to Miss: The Good, the Bad & the Unbelievable

Think the holidays are over? Think again. The first month of the New Year brings us some real humdinger holidays you won't want to miss celebrating.

First off January is National Fiber Focus Month an Oatmeal Month. Are you ready for this? January is also Prune Breakfast month. Yikes. What a way to clean out, I mean clean up, your diet in the New Year. More along my tastes, January is also National
Soup Month and Hot Tea Month.

January 3 Drinking Straw Day

Yep, there are some real suckers for this holiday. Drinking Straw Day is celebrated in honor of the date in 1888 that Marvin C. Stone patented the drinking straw.

Don't mix up your celebrations and try to drink your hot tea through a straw. The Pureed Prune Smoothie may be safe though- if you don't have anywhere to go today and have lots of reading material on hand.

January 4 is Trivia Day and Humiliation Day.

At first I thought this was an odd pairing. Then I watched Jeopardy and now this pairing does seem really appropriate.

Here's a little trivia for you: How did Alexander Graham Bell propose to his wife? Did you say over the phone? O.K. you've just jumped from Trivia Day to Humiliation Day. Bell actually proposed using Morse code.

January 18 is Thesaurus Day.

What else could you call this day? Is there another word for thesaurus?

January 21 is both Squirrel Appreciation Day and National Hugging Day.

PLEASE, don't try to hug the squirrels. They really don't appreciate it. They'll just think you're a nut and you know what they do to nuts.

January 22 is Answer Your Cat's Question Day.

I'll bet your cat just has one question. What the heck was that all about with the squirrels yesterday?

January 23 is National Compliment Day.

I'll be waiting...

January 26 is Spouse's Day.

Whose idea was this? It was probably some guy who missed the boat on Compliment Day and needed to make up for it.

January 28 is National Kazoo Day and Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day.

My kids love to do the "Bubble Wrap Appreciation" dance any old day. POP! POP! POP! Between the kazooing and the popping, I am nominating this day to also be National Ear Plug Day.

January 6th is The Epiphany, AKA: Day of the 3 Kings. . . An old Catholic Holiday that was originally the day when presents were exchanged among Christians, to celebrate the birth of Christ. There are many who still celebrate this instead of Christmas- thought I'd add it here for you. Thanks!
