Vintage Rose Painted Bathroom Countertops - If you are looking to add a Shabby Chic look to your home décor, why not include sprucing up your outdated laminate countertops? This project will take just under a weekend to complete, with drying time taken into account.

For this project, you will need:

- Smooth laminate countertops

- TSP cleaner (found at local home improvement stores)

- Medium grit sandpaper

- Rustoleum Plastic Primer (found at local home improvement stores)

- Behr Latex Based Paint in Shire Green

- Behr Latex Based Paint in Hibiscus Petal

- Behr Latex Based Paint in Coy Pink

- Behr Latex Based Paint in Glow

- Four inch roller brush

- Foam brush

- Artist's brush

- Masking Tape

- Royal Design Vintage Floral Rose Stencil (found online here)

- Soap and water

- Cloth

Begin first by making sure your existing laminate countertop is free of any cracks, rips, or tears. This should be material that is still in fairly good condition, just a bit out dated or not aesthetically pleasing. Wash and dry the countertop well with soap and water.

Using masking tape, cover up any sink fixtures or cabinet mounts. "Rough up" the laminate material using medium grit sandpaper. Using a cloth, remove any surface dust. With the TSP cleaner, apply a generous coat and scrub the laminate to remove any additional dirt or grime. Rinse with water and dry completely.

Spray the entire counter with two coats of Rustoleum Plastic Primer. (This is a vital step as it determines the length of paint life for your decorative countertop.) Allow the primer to dry for three to four hours before continuing. With the four inch roller brush, apply two generous coats of Behr Latex Based Paint in Glow. Let the paint set overnight.

Position the Royal Design Vintage Floral Rose Stencil directly onto the painted laminate using masking tape. With the foam brush, fill in the rose portion of the stencil using Behr Latex Based Paint in Hibiscus Petal. Let this set for about an hour. Again using the foam brush, fill in the leaf details for the vintage rose design with Behr Latex Based Paint in Shire Green. Allow this to dry for several hours with the stencil still attached.

Takeaways
  • Use only soap and water for cleaning.
  • Paint should last only a couple years.
  • Do not use harsh abrasives or scrubbing pads on the finished project.
