You are having a baby, and do not know the sex. You do not want to know the sex either, but you still must prepare a nursery bedroom. What do you do? Where do you start? My suggestion is to forget the yellow and green colors of yester year. While these colors are restful, they provide little personality to the room and can be predictable and boring. Here are some ideas for creating a baby room:

Choosing Colors for a unisex nursery: Ban the colors yellow and green from the room. Let everyone know that you prefer another color... then pick the other color. I recommend beige, winter white, or off white. If you hate whites, you can use sky blue, but there is something precious about a baby room done is white, so humor me. My first recommendation for the walls is antique white with white trim. For floors, I recommend a beige rug, layered with a soft white washable area rug for added warmth and texture.

Choosing Fabrics for a unisex nursery: Since I have given you the color choices of white, white, or more white, I recommend looking for fabrics with interesting patterns and textures. Consider waffle weave, flannel, chenille, and satin to add depth and variety to bedding and window treatments.

Choosing wall décor for a unisex room: Keep it simple but classic. Consider fun themes like Winnie the Pooh, Raggedy Ann and Any, The Wizard of Oz, or The Wind in the Willows. While these items may not be readily available as merchandised wallpaper in the stores, you can display books or book pages in frames. You can also purchase old prints and frame them in simple gold frames. You can also order posters online that you can frame.
