In case you haven't heard, Rueters.com reports that Britney Spears sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, is pregnant at the age of 16. Jamie Lynn Spears has made an initial move that demonstrates more responsibility than her older sister by taking responsibility for the child. Let's hope she is a better parent than her older sister.

Nickelodeon advised Reuters that their primary concern at this point is for Jamie Lynn Spears well being. Fortunately for Nickelodeon, they finished filming their fourth and final season in September.

I watched Britney Spears grow up in the public spotlight. As we know, things have not turned out well for her. She lost custody of her children to Kevin Federline. That in itself is a heart-wrenching story. Now, add Jamie Lynn's story to the drama and you have one family that has their hands full.

Each individual is responsible for themselves, but Jamie Lynn is a child. Has she, like Britney been forced to grow up too fast? She allegedly met the father, according to a Reuters, at church. Church?

At some point you have to look at the family and question what the parents are, or are not doing for these kids?

This borders on the unbelievable, but we know truth is stranger than fiction. This is not the first thing I expected to find on Reuters tonight. Now, I'm heart-broken for a child having a child. Will the public rake her over the coals? Is this the beginning of a life of public relations disasters?

I hope not. I am flabbergasted at this news, and at this point, it raises more questions than answers. I hate to see a child begin a life of responsibility so young. But then, maybe she will be responsible, or at least more responsible than her sister.

I'm sure as the story gets out rumors, chastisement, and judgments will fly. What troubles me is that the problems this family seems to face are at the core, matters of the heart, morals, and values.

It reminds me of the sad situation our world is in. It has become much more difficult to live right side up in an upside down world. I hate to even see this unfold.

This is just sad, she is just a child herself.

This is a very sad situation. I am glad that she seems to be stepping up and taking responsibility, but she has no idea what she is getting herself into. Parenting is a challenge for anyone, much less a couple of teenagers.

What a load of turmoil for one family.

Lenora I agree with you that the parents seem to be stepping back but I've known a lot of involved, loving parents who've been surprised by this. Good parenting is no guarantee that a teen won't make a mistake but it does seem to encourage teens to think before acting. Still, there are mistakes, unfortunately. Having a child as a teenager can be a wake-up call for some. At least this baby is coming into a family that still seems to have some financial resources but I wonder about the values and role modeling of the adults.

That family is really going through a rough patch. I know plenty don't seem to feel too sorry for Brittney because of her wealth but I do feel badly for her. I hope she can get some perspective and I especially hope all the Spears children (the newest) will be raised safely.

I heard about this yesterday. It's sad to find another girl who will be facing teenage motherhood, even a famous girl. Sophie

I have to feel sorry for both the girls. I've never been a fan of Britney, but it must be awful having people always watching every move you make and ready to pass judgement. True, she makes some bad choices, but don't we all? I feel sorry for the entire younger generation. We can teach them everything we know about abstinence, safe sex, etc. and then allow their minds to be filled with the sex-oriented crud they see constantly on TV and everything they've been taught will fly out the window. They say we are what we eat. We're also what we think about, and it must be hard for the youth today to think about anything besides sex. Even commercials for ice cream are sometimes sexy!

I can;t even let myself have an opinion on this one.

Teenage pregnancy is still a big problem today; after all the teaching and birth control that's available. I wonder if she will be able to keep her Disney show? Her audience are so very young, and the media is not going to let up. I hope she gets the guidance and help a teen need to face motherhood. I never had to deal with teen pregnancy. Even though the kids always say I preach about the subject too much; I guess they are listening. There is a lot to be concerned with when one is involved in unsafe sex. One is HIV/AIDS.

Very sad. I hope this girl gets the support she needs to handle the responsibility of early parenthood.

I think all this news is sad because it seems like celebrities underestimate the responsibility involved in being a parent and public role model. They behave recklessly like the only thing thats important is their lives. Money, fame, and power has filled their heads with hot air.

Unfortunately, the Spears family is no different than a lot of families in the US (minus a few million dollars)! The rate of teenage pregnancies is climbing at an alarming rate. There are so many factors that make it very difficult for young people to "just say no". So much for the safe sex message, huh?

I heard this on the news this morning! Ugh----that's all I can say . . .
