Do you have a Web site, and if so, do you monetize it with Google AdSense? I have a Web site that is arts-and-craft related, and the problem I have with placing AdSense on the Web site is that crafts pull a typical four to eight cents per click. I contacted Google at one point and asked about keyword-related ads instead of content-related ads. Google informed me that they do not have that option. I do understand their reasoning, but sometimes there are other related advertisements that may not be in the content of your Web site. In addition to the high PPC for digital cameras vs gourd art, the eCPM runs generally between $3 and $6, which is about 6 times that of my content-related advertisements.

My Web site is The Gourd Reserve, and with today's technology and the Internet, many gourd artist's either have or need digital camera equipment. I have from time to time supplemented the advertisements on my Web site with camera equipment affiliates. I have made some sales as a result of those affiliates, but I believe I would do much better in the long run if I could focus on some keywords and let the advertisements from the merchants dictate the activity instead of relying on a sale before getting a commission.

This week, we found a new advertisement company called Widget Bucks. Widget Bucks gives you the option of having the ads served being either content related or you can choose a category and subcategory. For instance I can select photography/digital cameras. The ad that is served up is like a slide show with a list of about eight different cameras, and as the slideshow scrolls through the list it shows the best price of the merchants Widget Bucks has as advertising clients.

I have only inserted these yesterday, so I don't have enough data at this point to know if it is going to out weigh AdSense. However, I don't believe these ads are in conflict with AdSense, therefore I can show both on the webpages since AdSense is strictly content related and Widget Bucks are keyword related and not in competition with AdSense in any way.

Takeaways
  • WidgetBucks has a high eCPM payout compared to many other advertising programs
  • Widgetbucks allow you to place catagory related ads instead of content related ads
Did You Know?
Not all items related to a subject are included in your content, therefore finding specific related accessories to compliment your content could pay of in a big bonus to you.

Good article. I tried Google Adsense and found it to be a waste of money and time BUT Google Adwords has been somewhat profitable. Thanks for the info.
