Breaking in the celebrity spotlight is the unexpected news that Jamie Lynn Spears, 16 year old sister to pop singer Britney Spears, is in fact expecting. Just further evidence that celebrity kids may be growing up way too quickly.

Jamie Lynn is the star of Nickelodeon's popular show Zoey 101. Nickelodeon was quoted by People.com as saying... "We respect Jamie Lynn's decision to take responsibility in this sensitive and personal situation. We know this is a very difficult time for her and her family, and our primary concern right now is for Jamie Lynn's well being." As of today, there is no word from Nickelodeon concerning future plans for the television series.

Another news source, OK! Magazine reports that Jamie Lynn is 12 weeks into her pregnancy. The father according to Jamie is boyfriend Casey Alderdge. In the OK! report, the 16 year discusses what a shock the pregnancy has been and stated that she waited a full 2 weeks before breaking the news to her parents or her boyfriend. She states she needed the time to sort things out. Spears mother also states that the news was shocking and unexpected.

Could Britney's influence on Jamie have played into this untimely pregnancy? According to TMZ, Britney has been spending time with her younger sister, following a fall out with the pairs mother. Britney's party-girl lifestyle isn't exactly appropriate for a girl Jamie's age and one has to wonder what types of behavior and ideas Britney has exposed her little sister to. It's fairly well known that Britney has demonstrated poor judgment a time or two before.

Britney Spears has been somewhat of a spotlight hog with her many antics and inappropriate behavior, both on and off the camera. We're all at least somewhat familiar with her recent divorce, custody battle, and reports of chemical addictions and substance abuse. Not to mention all the unflattering tales of the pop singer that seem to inundate the news on a weekly basis. Everything from showing a camera that she prefers not to wear her underwear when she goes out for a night on the town, to a very well publicized trip to a barber shop where she shaved her head bald.

Honestly, who cares? This is not the public's business, especially considering there are much more important things going on in the world that actually need our attention.

Good reporting. I have to admit to being surprised.

I also wrote an article on this- I cannot believe that she condones premartial sex with her actions, but condems it with her words---get your opinions straight and figure out how you really feel.... http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/493245/jamie_lynn_spears_pregnant.html

I had my son at age 17. There was a lot going on at the time, and I think I was trying to escape. Compared to the much of my family, I think I'm a great mom. That baby I had at 17 is now 18 himself. He is a great kid; he's in college and even likes to hang out with old mom once in a while. We talk about his childhood and what came about when I got pregnant at 17 all the time, and he's quite amazed that he had such a stable, healthy childhood. Jamie Lynn can do it, but her influences are certainly not healthy for her or her baby.

Ben, that's a good point and another reason 16 year olds should wait. Kids that age rarely consider consequences. They're kids afterall.

She should have used better judgement. I wonder if either of them used protection, and if it failed. That'll give people more to think about.

I'm hoping she makes the best of the situation she finds herself in. While I don't like to hear of unmarried teens having children, I know she's had very tuff decision to make and I'm glad she's keeping her baby.

ghostwriter84-I don't know that there's a precise answer about how young is too young. At 18 one's an adult, so 18 is definitely acceptable, and I'm not going to argue about what a legal adult does. 16 and 17 might not be ideal, you're still growing, etc. so that is the gray area in between. 15 seems too young, at least in contemporary society, though. To the other commentors-I didn't mean to imply that because she has a lot of money, she's capable of being a parent. I'm not going to pass judgment on ANY pregnant 16-year-old, let alone a celebrity with bank statements that would make me weep over my meager freelance salary. She might outsource her childcare, so do plenty of extremely wealthy individuals who are much, much older, so I don't see her age being a concern in that regard.

Great reporting. I do not condone a 16 year old being pregnant (and certainly not by a 19 year old), but I do hope she turns out to be a good parent, nonetheless. I have witnessed young parents do an excellent job, so we'll just have to wait and see. I just hope she does not follow in her sister's footsteps.

It's sad what that family has been through! Good article.

I love the way the publicity team jumped out and tried to run all the spins on the story. The parents are elated with her soon to be "baby daddy". He's a good boy, he always has her back; he's been there to comfort her (yeah and now we see how). But my favorite out of all of it -is the fact that her mother sold the story to a publication... MILK THAT COW... cause unlike Britney what happens if she loves her child and wants to stay home and raise them and not work anymore.... What then....

And she was shocked? Furthermore, a sixteen year old should be at home with parents and not living with a boy. I would have never been allowed as much time with any male at 16.Everyone says dont judge thats true, but you would think a 16 year old would know how to stop pregnancy.

Such a sad situation!

The rules of the universe keeps on changing. With a little bit of time, having kids when you are 16 will be as normal as having kids when you are married and 25.
