Tips on What Not to Do at Beauty Pageants

My Interpretation of the Scorecard from My Daughters Last Pageant

We just got the scorecard in the mail from my daughter’s beauty pageant. What we learned from the scorecard is that we need to change a few things to do better next time. My daughter requested I burn it, but first I will share the results. Here is what we have learned from the
 scores and the comments.

What not to do at beauty pageants tip # 1

Do not wear gloves in the beauty gown competition. Judges do not like girls to try to overdo it. They do not want to be distracted by extras.

What not to do at beauty pageants tip # 2

Do not forget to smile. You know the old saying; never let them see you sweat. Do not let your fear on stage show. Practice, practice, and practice your smile so that is shows through naturally when you are onstage.

What not to do at beauty pageants tip # 3

Know when you are being judged. We mistakenly thought she was being judged the first evening when they had the ball gown ceremony and put a great deal of work into her hair and she looked absolutely perfect. Too bad the judging happened the next night when the gown was worn for the second time. We should have had it steamed before the second night to be rid of wrinkles from the night before, and done her hair in the same way.

What not to do at beauty pageants tip # 4

Do not eat too much right before the final competition. My daughters dress was tight around her stomach the second night (when she was being judged) as she had just eaten… a lot.

What not to do at beauty pageants tip # 5

Do not make the interview outfit too cutesy. The bright pink jacket trimmed with ruffles, paired with a white skirt and tee, did not get a great score. A darker more conservative suit would have scored better.

What not to do at beauty pageants tip # 6

Do not do a talent that people cannot follow. My daughter played a classical piece on the piano. Unfortunately, it was not a popular piece and the comments came back saying she should have played stronger. It was supposed to be played softly in key places. OH well, next time, she is doing music that is more popular. She will save the classical stuff for when she is older.

I am directing a new beauty pageant to crown a Queen for a small community festival. I've been a pageant mom for a couple years but we never received any scorecards from any of my daughter's pageants. Do you have an example of a scorecard that I could use as an example? Please email them to spirit_of_rosanky_jubilee@yahoo.com Thanks, Tami Cooper Spirit of Rosanky president www.myspace.com/spirit_of_rosanky
