Ethical issues in the business world have generated a qualitative research study to see if the methods used in teaching ethics are outdated and needs to be addressed. Everett (2007) collected interviews from 15 faculty members that were represented in the symbolic market of ethics. These members completed their PhD at the same learning institution and from the interviews it was found that ethics was a top priority for the faculty members but a general agreement that the neoclassical model of ethics teaching needs to be addressed. There needs to more of a concern about ethics, especially the way ethics are presented in the classroom.

Professor Ian Mitrof wrote in a 2004 Journal of Business Ethics that the teaching of ethics in business colleges was becoming alarmingly slack. He contends the business school teachers have created at atmosphere in their curriculum that presents a distorted view of what ethics are and how bad ethics are being addressed. He even argues that the distorted view of ethics created in the educational setting will create an atmosphere for the students to facilitate corporate collapses and job loss. The lack of ethics will carry on to the corporate world and the underbelly of corporate greed and profit will be affected.

Bampton and Cowton (2002) argue that it is not just the message of ethics that are deluded in the classroom but the lack of teaching materials for ethical training is in short supply and poor in quality. They also argue that teachers do not have adequate preparation time to add ethics to their curriculum. If ethics are included it is slighted over and is not adequate for today's corporate climate. Not only are the professors ill equipped to teach the material, they are poorly trained in the subject matter.
