If you know someone that owns a horse you might be thinking about getting a t-shirt or sweater with horses all over it. As a horse owner myself I can tell you that there are some Christmas's that I wish people would stop getting me those types of gifts. I have more horse t-shirts than I can wear and some of them are not the types of horses that are really my style. Here is a quick list of some really useful gifts that a horse owner could use:

A 5 lb bag of carrots or apples for their horse. I get really tickled pink when someone remembers to get a Christmas gift for my horse.

A pair of rubber boots. All horse owners have to deal with mud or poop at sometime in their lives and rubber boots come in handy. Find out the boot size of the intended gift receiver before you buy them.

A nice warm pair of winter gloves. Even if the horse person does not ride, gloves come in handy in the winter. Make sure they are non-porous and don't absorb water and are thin enough to unlock and open gates with.

A gift card or certificate at the local feed store. Forget Macy's and Sears, most of us horse owners spend more time at the local feed store.

Horse wormer. Every horse owner treats their horse for worms every 2-3 months. Find out what wormer the horse owner uses and buy a few tubes. They are not that expensive and is often something that gets forgotten to get bought by the horse owner when the horse needs worming. You can find horse wormer at your local feed store.

Now here is something I bet most of you didn't know: Some Wal-Marts have a section for horses in their pet supply department. If your local Wal-Mart has horse feed supplies then they have horse brushes, wormers and horse treats too.

Bottom line is to buy a horse owner a great Christmas gift think of the horse first. Your gift will be appreciated much more than if you just got them another t-shirt with a horse on it.

Did You Know?
This list idea comes straight from a horse owner that has gotten some strange and unwanted gifts from well meaning freinds.

Great article! I too, have horses, and am so tired of horsey-shirts. Practical gifts are much welcomed! :-) Merry Christmas!
