Holidays are such an important part of each countries tradition along with supporting its culture. Some of the most popular holidays on earth either revolve around the Christian belief such as Easter and Christmas however there are other popular ones such as Independence Day, New Year Day, and Valentines and so on. Then there are strange and weird holidays that really have no meaning besides the mere purpose to have an excuse to celebrate something. Have you ever wondered what is going on around the world today? Today marks the 357th day of the year!
8 days left this year!
Here is what is going on today around the world:
1. United States:
*Festivus: Although this really is not a real holiday in America, it was introduced by the creators of the famous TV sitcom called Seinfeld. This was actually a holiday that was started in Ancient Rome though.
*National Pfeffernuesse Day: Pfeffernuesse is something that my German family knows all too well. It is descended from the Germanic countries and is a common treat during the holiday season. The cookie looks like a small white cookie that has been rolled with powered sugar. The look almost like Italian Wedding cookies however have a slight bit of a punch in the taste.
*Two Days to go Day: Yes, there are only two days to go - you should panic if you are not ready yet.
*Roots Day: Today is the day to start thinking about where you can from and be thankful for that ancestry tree.
*Humanlight: In 2001, the New Jersey Humanist Network created this humanist seasonal holiday. Lights are cast to protray "a Humanist's vision of a good future."
*Anna Maria Perez de Tagle: Born in 1990, she is an American actress that is best know for her role in Hannah Montana.
*Susan Victoria Lucci Birthday: Born in 1946, she is an American actress.
2. Iceland:
*Yuletide Lads: Kertasníkir (Candle-Beggar): Please see December 12th for more information.
3. Japan:
*Emperor's Birthday: Today is the birthday of Emperor Akihito (the Japanese emperor is never called by his real birth name). He was born in 1933. This is a public holiday in Japan in honor of his birth.
