There was a time when women painted their rooms' boudoirs in shades of pink and men painted their personal space in blues, greens, and brown. When they got together, they had to fight out whose color scheme was going to be dominant. She generally won making him miserable, or they tried to compromise with results that were often confused or lacking definite personality.

These days, however, there is no such thing as male and feminine colors. Men feel comfortable in surrounded by pink (though they might call it warm beige), and women love brown, as long as you call it chocolate. Decorating does not have to be a battle anymore. Men and women have gone beyond compromise, and are actually embracing the colors of our significant others.

The hottest current paint color trends are a perfect blend of classically feminine and masculine colors. This is not a new thing of course, and it is only natural for pretty and strong colors to blend. Plants with green stems have pink vibrant blooms. Olives are most enticing with pimento centers. Warm tones blend beautifully with cool. Just like feminine goes with masculine, earthy goes with vibrant and warm goes with cool, current color trends already coexist in nature.

With that said, colors you should consider when painting or designing are:

Earth tones from nature: Sherwin Williams suggests Naval blue, Inland green, Sapphire blue, Gallant Gold, Butter up (yellow), Raindrop (light blue) and Exclusive plum. Or you can pick your favorite flowers and have your paint store mix colors to match.

Brilliant Bollywood tones: Strong ethnic colors like Maroon, Ginger, Brown, Copper, Brass, Leather brown, and wine are all the rage. Look for colors you would find on your plate if you were served a rich ethnic meal.

For those who love calm elegant surroundings, look for beige, white, ice blue, ivory, rice, tan, stone, and coffee brown and a dark bluish green color Sherwin Williams calls cyberspace. Think peace, quiet and comfortable.

Too funny that they named a color Cyberspace! I always thought it would be a fun job thinking up color names.
