Book Review of More Than Seduction by Cheryl Holt

Set in the Regency Era in England, our heroine, Anne Paxton Smythe, who is the illegitimate daughter of an earl, runs a healing spa for women near the town of Bath. When decorated war hero, handsome Captain Stephen Charmberlin, is literally deposited on her doorstep injured from combat, by his sister Lady Eleanor, Anne tries to heal him. Hiding him inside her house so that the female patrons of her spa won't know, Anne heals his body as well as igniting a thirst to live within him. Falling in love, all seems rosy until a spoiled aristocrat, and former paramour of Stephen, Lady Camilla, hires Anne's neighbor, the perverted and brutal Mr. Willie McGee, to abduct and harm and possibly kill Anne.

Written by the national award winning author, Cheryl Holt, I found this novel to be thrilling and sexy. It is not for the faint of heart, though. There are some scenes that are risque as well as being vicious. Not your run-of-the-mill romance novel, the characters are not the perfect and exquisite human beings you normally see. Neither the heroine or hero are extremely rich, in fact, our heroine owns her own business, while our hero, being the third son, had to go into the military. While both are of romance novel quality beauty, it is not always so. Our hero is injured for about half of the novel and it lingers throughout, while our heroine is pictured as more of a functional beauty than the extolled pale, fragile, and wimpy females of the aristocracy, which I believe, makes the novel that much better. Overall, an exciting and seductive read that will keep you glued to the pages!
