Polls Favor the Cancellation of "Zoey 101," After Jamie Lynn Spears Reveals She is Pregnant

It would be just another teen pregnancy story, if it didn't carry such a famous name. Sixteen year-old Jamie Lynn Spears, of "Zoey 101" fame, and the younger sister of famous pop star Britney Spears has confirmed that she is pregnant. It would also be much less of a story if her older sister did not take every opportunity afforded her to show that she has little business being a mother.

Poor Jamie Lynn, if she wasn't under the microscope before, she will be now for sure. The actress who got her start in Nickelodeon variety series "All That," and who now appears on Nic's Emmy nominated show "Zoey 101," seemed on her way to Hollywood fortune and fame despite her sister's tall shadow. The younger Spears had even picked up a Nickelodeon Kid's Choice Award along the way. A year before that she collected a "One to Watch Award" at the 2005 MOVIELINE'S Young Hollywood Awards.

But that was yesterday's news, today the teen star revealed to "OK!" magazine that she is 12 months pregnant, and that her nineteen year-old boyfriend is the father. It's the kind of news that somehow didn't make the teen's personal web page. The last diary entry there is about 11 weeks old and talks about her getting ready for the US weekly "Hot Hollywood" event. She signs off with the promise of pictures to be posted, pictures that of course never came.

But who could blame her for the slight? What exactly could she to post on her diary? I mean, should she have written an entry along the lines of "Dear Diary, I guess I blew it. Well, I mean, I think I derailed my career for the time being, maybe I should have been paying attention in school when they spoke about birth control. But can you really blame me? I was in London that week...Still deep down inside, I know I can be...no I know I will be a better mother than Britney." Hardly. Instead I am sure that Spears took a few weeks to think about how best to do "damage control" on her career. Though that is jumping way ahead of the story, since it appears that the teen took a few weeks just to let get over her initial shock, before telling her parents about her pregnancy.
