TRIBUTE: Founding Fathers & Mothers

Despite Their Failings, They Continue to Have Wonderful Integrity

HAPPY SEPARATION

away from my better half, I am complete;

as the distance between grew intense ...

my real hope, my self-sufficiency concrete,

minus the empty craving inside, formless quest.

I could sit for days among the founding fathers,

never missing the fun "out there" (meaning "someplace indoors")

reading the readers and writers, freedom-fighters, land-grabbers ...

who retain an integrity beyond us, beyond yonder egos!

who, now, could create another asylum for Puritans, illegals, prisoners?

without mobs like the Sons of Liberty, Quakers, Paine... who rejected slavery;

without Abigail Adams who warned of hypocrisy, domineering manners ...

Washington would hang from the jaws, mauled by the paws, of monrachy!

as I sink into the softness of this reflective bed

I share a fireside with many a dead friend and luminary

who knew when to puff one's ego, how to bow one's head ...

Eureka for America's Enlightenment, my glorious eighteenth century!
