Nothing says 'love' on Valentine's Day than a project that truly comes from the heart. This inexpensive to create pink and red tin photo art project is a perfect give for a family member or loved one, and is easy enough for even the most beginning of crafter.

For this project, you will need:

- One eight inch scroll tile tin (such as the one found online here at Viking Crafts)

- DecoArt Crafter's Acrylic in Cherry Blossom Pink

- DecoArt Crafter's Acrylic in Bright Red

- Acrylic finishing spray

- Scalloped edge scissors

- A favorite photo big enough for the center of the tin tile (see note)

- Adhesive spray

- Popsicle stick

- Paper plate

- Hot glue gun and glue sticks

- Red craft jewels

- Sponge brush

- Artist's paintbrush

- Newspaper

As with any crafts involving paint and sprays, coat your workspace with an adequate amount of newspaper and make sure the area is well ventilated.

Begin first by coating the entire scroll tin tile with DecoArt Crafter's Acrylic in Cherry Blossom Pink, using a sponge brush. Allow the paint to dry for about a half hour before adding a second coat. Set aside.

Trim the edges of your photo with scalloped edge scissors for a decorative look. (These can be found at your local craft or scrapbook store.) Apply a generous coat of spray adhesive to the back of the photo and press gently onto the scroll tin tile. Smooth out any bubbles using your fingers or the popsicle stick, starting in the middle and working your way to the edge of the photo. Let the glue dry completely, usually within fifteen minutes or so.

Apply a quarter sized amount of DecoArt Crafter's Acrylic in Bright Red to the paper plate. With the artist's paintbrush, outline the outer raised details in the metal with the red paint. Add any additional details at this time. Let dry.

Spray with a generous coat of acrylic finishing spray. Let set for about an hour before continuing. Heat up the hot glue gun and glue sticks. Adhere the red craft jewels around the photo. Let dry completely before giving.

Takeaways
  • Always make severl copies when working with photos.
  • Laser copies will prevent the photo ink from smearing.
  • Happy Valentine's Day!
