How to Bleach Dark Hair Blond and Dye it Punky, Funky Colors

If you have black or dark-brown hair and want platinum-blond hair, it's not as easy as it sounds. You can't just buy an over-the-counter blond hair dye package from Wal-Mart and pour it on your black hair: The results will be a gross, orange color that is anything but the shimmering,
 blond hair that you want.

The same goes for black- or brown-haired people who want bright, punky, funky colors like red, blue or green. If you try to just dye your hair blue, at the very most you'll have subtle color highlights, but they won't be that bold look you're going for.

In this article, I'll show you two things: First, how to bleach your hair blonde if you have black or dark brown hair. Second, I'll explain how to get those bright, vibrant, outrageous hair colors even if you have dark, black or brown hair.

First of all, let's make it clear: You do NOT want to buy blonde hair dye and put it on your dark hair. That will not, I repeat NOT, get you the blond hair you want. What will happen is the blonde dye will start to strip the dark undertones of your hair but it will not remove all of them, leaving behind an ugly, brassy orange hair color that tells everyone that you have no idea what you're doing.

How to Bleach/Dye Dark Black or Brown Hair Blonde

It is a lot easier than it sounds. First, you'll need to buy two things: Liquid hair peroxide and hair bleach powder. A pack of hair bleach and a bottle of peroxide should cost you about $3 to $4 total. It is very inexpensive.

There are different strengths of peroxide that you can purchase, ranging from Peroxide 10 to Peroxide 40. The higher the number, the stronger its color-stripping effects. For best results, get Peroxide 40.

I use Jerome Russell's powder bleach and peroxide. It is inexpensive, and their line of bleach helps protect your hair.

What you'll have to do is mix equal amounts of peroxide and bleach powder in a plastic or paper container. All of the material you use should be plastic. Do not use metal, as this will react negatively with the chemicals. It is also highly advised that you use gloves while lightening your hair to blonde.

ive had dark hair and bleetched it blonde and it goes yellowey, insted of having a fxing hissy, get a born blonde dye from any drug store, a regular born blonde die, to dye over and it wil go really natural. dying straight over black is stupid so you can get a "stripper", you would get from sallys, or aany other hair store, for about 20pound and it complety strips your hair so a really light brown colour, which would be perfect to bleetch over,

I wouldn't follow thins at all! It depends on the strength of your hair. 40 Volume bleach WILL ruin your hair by using it the once never mind twice! Anyone thinking about doing it should go to a hairdresser and get it done professionally.

Before using bleach on ur hair u really should seek advice from a professional. There is alot more to dying or bleaching ur hair than grabbing a bunch of bleach and shoving it in ur hair.. you can do alot of damage if u dont no wat ur doing... Also if ur having trouble bleaching ur hair to the level u want it could be because u have over bleached it. if going from say a level 2 or 3 (black level 10 being light blonde) then ur hair needs to go through different levels of lightening. so sometimes in the first two bleaches it may only lift 5 or 6 levels and is going to go through differnt colours before reaching ur target goal. so if u do get a light ginger or orange colour and can get it up any more try to leave it for a week or so or as long as possible then bleach again. but like i said try to get advice from a professional first. hope this helps.

You skipped a step - you didn't talk about what you do to wash out the bleach. For anyone wondering - you ABSOLUTELY DO NOT condition it in between bleaching and dying it. Conditioning pretty much seals your hair, so if you're doing dye after bleach, don't condition when washing the bleach out. It's BEST to just rinse it and don't do any shampooing either, but it's not too bad. Also, the natural oils in your hair help it A LOT. So the best thing is to not wash it for a day or two prior to both bleaching and dying it. After you've dyed it, condition like crazy!
