Life is hard enough when you are a teenager and just trying to grow up and survive school, and the cliques and other quirks that come with it. When you couple a case of severe acne with that, your teen could be having an extra difficult time. Kids are cruel and unfortunately when they are teens they haven't yet grown out of the need to pick on kids who are different, heck, some adults never grow out of it!

Here are some things you can do to help your teen cope with the fall out of severe acne.

Step 1: Remind your teen that most teens go through this at one time or another. If you suffered from it as a teen, share your experiences with your child as this will help them to realize that you really do understand. Also, remind them in many cases severe acne is temporary. Sometimes knowing that eventually the pimples will disappear can make all the difference.

Step 2: Consider consulting a good dermatologist. There are dermatologists who specialize in treating severe acne and you will want to find one of those. Even getting the severe acne partially cleared up will go a long way towards helping your teen deal with the fallout of severe acne.

Step 3: Encourage your teen to live a healthy lifestyle. While this may be hard especially when their friends are eating a lot of potato chips and burgers, if your teen understands that a diet filled with fruits and vegetables and lean meat can help reduce the acne outbreaks, they will be more likely to go along with this concept.

Step 4: Encourage your teen not to over wash their face, or pick at their pimples. Sometimes the urge to pop a pimple is almost overwhelming, but this is a good way to spread acne and to get scars. So explaining this to your teen, and helping them to remember is one way you can help them deal with severe acne.

Takeaways
  • Teach your teen how to use positive affirmations.
  • Consider taking your teen to a dermatologist.
  • Encourage your teen to live a healthy lifestyle so as to help reduce acne outbreaks.
